Foundation Facts: Building the Maroon Machine

When you have a program as large and successful as the Mechanicsburg Area School District Maroon Machine marching band, support comes in many different forms.

Grant funding from The Wildcat Foundation helped provide tubas, percussion equipment, and a band podium in past years. This year, add two trombones to that list.

The MASH marching band provides extracurricular music opportunities and community for any student enrolled in the high school, program directors wrote in their grant application. The program’s ability to provide instruments to students who are in need creates an environment where those who may not have otherwise had access can participate in the high-quality experience and be a member of the band community without barriers.

This grant funding for the trombones directly impacts the larger group of students, as it improves the quality of the musical product they can create together, and it allows for three individual students to continue to grow in their musicianship on high quality instruments.

Band Director Ben Goldsborough discusses the challenge of outfitting an entire marching band and making sure his students have the equipment and opportunities they need to succeed.
